Das ist dieser legendäre MP3–AudioPlayer der allerersten Stunde. Sehr eigenwillig in der Benutzeroberfläche.

Die Version 3 verfügte erstmals über eine MediaLibrary und dafür und/oder die Playlists sollte XML verwendet werden. Das war aber in dieser Version 3 alles ziehmlich holperig und eigentlich unbrauchbar.

Die Lite-Version ist aus als sog. Portable Application geeignet für Installationen auf dem USB-Stick oder einer portablen Festplatte, da sie ohne Einträge im Registry etc. auskommt.

Ab Version 5.13 ist der Spam-Dienst eMusic in der Full-Version enthalten ?????

Beispiele: MP3-Dateien gehostet auf dem Cloud-Dienst Google Drive (früher: “OpenDrive” https://www.opendrive.com/) wo man eine direkte URL für seine Dateien bekommt.

Probleme und Lösungen

Beim Abspielen von MP3-Dateien, die mit AudaCity und Lame erstellt wurden gab es Probleme….
Zunächst konnte das Problem durch Installation des THOMSON mp3PRO decoders gelöst werden.
Nach Neu-Installation von WinAmp 5.21 Full trat das Problem aber überhaupt nicht mehr auf (auch ohne mp3PRO)

Digitalisieren meiner CD-Musiksammlung

Das Digitalisieren meiner alten LP-Sammlung war mühsam…

Aber die CD-Sammlung konnte ich ganz easy mit Hilfe von iTunes digitalisieren.

Und das ging so:

  • iTunes auf dem Computer starten
  • In der iTunes-Menü-Leiste: “Bearbeiten –> Einstellungen”, Reiter “Allgemein”: Beim Einlegen einer CD: “Zum Importieren der CD auffordern”
  • Audio-CD einfach in das CD-Laufwerk des Computers stecken und warten bis iTunes die CD bemerkt und eingelesen hat…

Wohin hat iTunes die Songs “importiert”?

Beispielsweise (wenn AAC): C:\Users\dkracht\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music\Daliah Lavi\Willst Du Mit Mir Geh’n.m4a

The Speed Link Trap Bluetooth Audio Link is a nice small bluethooth receiver that worked in principle well in my installation.

Nice Features:

  • Two audio jacks. 3.5 mm
  • Li Polymer rechargeble battery with 370 mAh, giving up to 10 hours playtime
  • Charging via Standard USB cable
  • Bluetooth profiles: A2DP, AVRCP

Negative:

  • Operates only via the build-in battery, not through USB power when being charged.

After the first year of test usage, what functions of iTunes Match make sense for me?

iTunes Match: The First Year

Since one year I now have my iTunes match subscription (without automatic prologation).

My onriginal and primary intent was to “legalize” my somewhat grown collection of single MP3 songs.

I also wanted to try iTunes match and gather experience, which functionality might be useful for me for the next years (switching from “Test Mode” to “Production Mode”).

iTunes Match: Experience with Functionality

  • Legalize old MP3 Collections: Works good
  • Purchase some “missing” songs for my collection: Yes I did this a few times (iTunes Store)
  • “Upgrade” MP3 songs from my CD collection to AAC digital quality: works good
  • “Upgrade” MP3 songs from Vinyl records to digital quality: did work only for a very few number of songs
  • Backup: Apples iCloud as a safe backup for my songs (5000 songs, 25 GB): This is a very valuable function, since it’s a near real time remote backup i.e. in Apple’s “iCloud” (precondition: you must use iTunes as your song library!)

iTunes: Access to Songs in iCloud

Remote Access: When I’m away from home, I have easily access to my songs with Apple mobile devices like iPhone and iPad.

For my mobile notebook computer (Windows 7) I decided not to make a local copy of all of my song files (5000 songs, 25 GB), but to try a connection via the internet to my iCloud. This was not so easy. The documentation for this sceario is difficult and sometimes wrong. Apple repeatedly ignores Windows Notebooks when talking about “mobile devides” – focussing on iPhone and iPad only….

What worked for me is:

  1. Installing iTunes latest version on my mobile Windows 7 notebook.
  2. Connected iTunes to the Apple Store: This made available my purchased songs (quite a few) but not all the other songs I have in iCoud
  3. Only after I activated “Turn On iTunes Match” in iTunes (Menue: Store > iTunes Match) I could see all my songs in iTunes on my mobile Windows notebook. iTunes did not ask for an extra subscription of iTUnes Match, but automatically used my exisiting iTunes Match account.
  4. This is not “Steaming Audio”. the songs from iCloud are effectrively downloaded and replay starts early (AAC and MP3 ?)

I also installed iCloud Control Panel 2.1.1 for Windows on my mobile notebook, but am not sure, if this was necessary for the access to the songs in iCloud – since Apple only talks about “Fotostreams”, “Favorites” and “Outlook” – what I realy do not need in the Cloud.

 

Fernsehen: Sound Bar for Philips 32PFL3605H/12

Der Flachbildfernseher Philips 32PFL3605H/12 hat, wie alle Flachbildfernseher, keine vernünfigen Laufsprecher.

  • Nachteil 1: Eingebaute Lautsprecher klingen blechern
  • Nachteil 2: Die eingebauten Lautsprecher strahlen zur Seite ab; d.h. an neben dem Fernseher ist der Ton lauter als vor dem Fernseher.

Die Lösung: ein zusätzliches Lautsprechersystem, häufig “Sound Bar” genannt.

Für den kleinen Philips LCD-Fernseher (32 Zoll = 80 cm Bilddiagonale und auch ca. 80 cm Gerätebreite) passen beispielsweise:

  • Philips CSS5123/12
  • Yamaha YAS 101

Das sagen die Datenblätter und die Rezensenten

Breite:  84 cm, Höhe 5 cm

Separater Subwoofer, der mit der Sound Bar über Bluetooth kommuniziert und damit nur mit einer Steckdose verbunden werden muss.

Verbindung mit dem Fernseher über HDMI. Dadurch wird  der Fernseher netzwerkfähig (WLAN, Streaming,…)

Zusätzlich zur HDMI-Buchse hat der Sound Bar einen analogen (Cinch) und zwei digitale Toneingänge (optisch und koaxial)..

Der Sound Bar hat auch einen USB-Anschluss zur Wiedergabe von Medien auf dem USB-Stick oder auch einer USB-Festplatte.

Zur Lautstärkeregelung genügt die TV-Fernbedienung. Flachbildfernseher schicken die Lautstärkebefehle über den HDMI-Ausgang (ARC) zum Soundbar.

Und das ist meine Erfahrung

Einen älteren Flachbildferseher mit HIlfe des CSS5123/12 mit aktueller Funktionalität aufpeppen….. Genau das schreiben nur Rezensenten, die das in der Praxis nicht ausprobiert haben.

Der Phillips SoundBar CSS5123/12 wird idealer Weise per HDMI mit dem Fehrseher verbunden wo dann ARC (Audio Reverse Channel) die Benutzung besonders einfach macht. Ältere Flachbildferseher haben aber kein HDMI mt ARC.

ARC ist offizieller Bestandteil von HDMI 1.4  und das hat  z.B. mein Samsung UE46C6700 nicht.

Auch der Phillips 32PFL3605H/12 hat lauf Datenblatt weder HDMI 1.4 noch ARC.

Mit dem Phillips 32PFL3605H/12 habe ich den SoundBar aber trotzden über HDMI zum Laufen gebracht. Am Fernseher habe ich in den Einstellungs-Menüs unter “HDMI-CEC” EasyLink  dann irgenwo eine Einstellung “HDMI 1 Audio Out” gefunden – das war’s.

Nun leuchtet auf der SoundBar die zweite LED von links mit der Beschriftung “ARC”. Das kann der Fernsher also obwohl sein HDMI “nur” v1.3 ist.

Das HDMI-Kabel vom SoundBar  musste ich am Fernseher dann noch von “HDMI links seitwärts” auf “HDMI hinten” umstecken (damit meine ich die HDMI-Buche auf der Rückseite des Fernsehers) und dann funzte alles. Wobei als “Source” am Fernseher dann wieder “TV” eingestellt ist, wo per SCART das Kabel Deutschland Kästchen drannhängt.

Die Bedienung erfolgt dann mit nur einer Fernbedienung, nämlich der des Fernsehers. Falls man den SoundBar fein-konfigurieren will, muss man aber immer am Fernseher die “Source” von “TV” auf “HDMI” wechseln und anschliessend wieder zurück.

Alternativen zum Audio-Anschluss über HDMI sucht man fast vergeblich: Alles was wie Audio aussieht ist INPUT; nur der Kopfhöreranschluss links an der Seite ist ein Audio-Out.

Nur eine Fernbedienung soll durch “Philips EasyLInk” bewirkt sein. Das ist ein Philip- Marketing-Slang für das standardmäßige HDMI-CEC..

Problems with Windows 7 and the BASS Library

After migrating from Windows Vista to Windows 7 my software “Online Radio Tuner” did not work anymore.

The error message was something like a wrong version in the BASS Library.

I re-installed Online Radio Tuner, exported and imported my favorites and re-registered – now it works again on Win7.

The unregistered version after the trial period does not allow you to record stations and does not show album art.

I already have converted all my od Vinyl LP records to MP3 – his has been done by a service from the German AWO.

Problems with these MP3 audio files:

  • They are properly named, but they do not have MP3 tags
  • The quality is sometimes not that good

The idea is to put them into my iTunes Library and go through the process of iTunes Match in order to replace most of them without costs by high quality AAC audio files from the iTunes Store.

In order to do this and gain all the advantages from iTunes Match two things are necessary:

  • Put these old MP3 files in exactly the folder structure that I use for my iTunes, as the eventually replaced and better AAC files will be downloaded from the cloud into that folder structure i.e. Folder “Artist” –> Folder “Album” –> Audio file (with filename = song title)
  • Create ID3 tags with “Artist”, “Album” and “Title”, as iTunes Match will use these when downloading from the cloud and iTunes Match will not use the tags contained in their AAC audio files (take special care if “Album Artist” ist used)

Creating ID3 Tags with MP3Tag

After I have put my MP3 audio files into folders by Arstist and sub-folders by Album, it’s easy to create the ID3 tags with the excellent software tool MP3Tag:

  • Navigate to a album folder
  • select all files in that folder
  • enter artist name and album name once for all the songs and save.
  • Click “Convert” in the menu bar and choose “Filename – Tag” with a “Format String” of “%skip% %title%”

Copy the MP3 files to my local iTunes Library

Musik: Using iTunes Match

In 2012 kam Apple mit einem neuen Dienst names iTunes Match auch auf den deutschen Markt.

Für eine Jahresgebühr von EUR 24,99 kann man seine Songs, die man auf lokalen Computern hat und die vielleicht nicht immer alle ganz legal zusammen gesammelt hat, legalisieren und in der Qualität verbessern.

Achtung die “Jahresgebühr” ist ein Abonnement, es verlängert sich automatisch immer woeder um ein Jahr, wenn man das nicht abstellt. In iTunes unter “Store –> Meinen Account anzeigen –> Apple-ID eingeben –> Automatische Verlängerung deaktivieren.

Erste Voraussetzung ist der Besitz einer Apple ID. Die hat man evtl. schon, weil man mit iTunes und dem iTunes Store arbeitet, oder wenn man noch keine Apple ID hat, bekommt man die kostenlos z.B. direkt bei Apple auf: http://appleid.apple.com

Das iTunes Match läuft über die iCloud, die muss man nun mit seiner Apple ID einrichten (http://www.icloud.com) und das geht nur mit einem iOS- oder OS X-Gerät d.h. auf einem Apple Device (iPhone, iPad oder so).  Das Einrichten der iCloud ist dann kostenlos und man hat 5 GB Speicher frei in seiner iCloud.
