TrueCrypt ist eine Software zur Verschlüsselung von Daten auf der Festplatte.

TrueCrypt 5.0a und 6.0a hängen den ganzen Computer auf, wenn man unter WindowsXP oder unter Windows Vista eine neue verschlüsselte Platte kreieren will. Es gibt einen Blue Screen mit einem Error in ifsmount.sys…

Die Ursache ist eine Unverträglickeit mit dem Linux-EXT2-Treiber Ext2IFS. Der Fehler soll angeblich im Ext2IFS liegen. Ich habe Ext2IFS deinstalliert, danach läuft TrueCrypt einwandfrei.

Features

• Verschlüsselung mit folgenden Algorithmen (“strong encryption”):
  • 256-bit AES – key length – block length ???
  • Twofish
  • Serpent

• Removed features in TrueCrypt 4.3:
  • It is no longer possible to create new volumes encrypted with 64-bit-block encryption algorithms (Blowfish, CAST-128, and Triple DES). 64-bit block ciphers are being phased out.
  • It is still possible to mount such volumes using this version of TrueCrypt. However, it will not be possible to mount such volumes using TrueCrypt 5.0 and later versions
  • If you have such a volume, we recommend that you create a new TrueCrypt volume encrypted with a 128-bit-block encryption algorithm (e.g., AES, Serpent, Twofish, etc.) and that you move files from the old volume to the new one.

• Container-Dateien auf Laufwerken im Netzwerk
  • Ab Version 4.0 können Container-Dateien auch im Netzwerk liegen
• Traveler Mode
  • Seit Version 3.1 unterstützt TrueCrypt auch einen sogenannten „Traveler Mode“, womit das Programm nicht mehr installiert werden muss (siehe auch PortableApplications). Dadurch kann es z. B. von USB-Sticks gestartet werden. Für den „Traveler Mode“ werden auf den Windows-Rechnern jedoch Administrator-Rechte benötigt.
